Margaret Peter

Margaret combines texture and colour to convey her impression of surfaces in her prints and paintings.

 

 

“I like to slightly abstract a drawing of an object or surface by emphasizing patterns and shapes through the use of colour and textures or by closely examining a small section of it.”

Margaret is a graduate of the University of Guelph and has a studio in her home in Guelph.  She is a founding member of the Chimera Gallery (April 1976), the Phoenix Artists Co-op (July 1978), past President (1981, 1988, 1991, 2003-2005) of the Guelph Creative Arts Association, Member of Central Ontario Art Association, The Print and Drawing Council of Canada and Visual Arts Ontario.  In October 1990, she was accepted into the Society of Canadian Artists.  In May 1991, she was accepted into the Ontario Society of Artists, and was a member of the “Guelph Artisans” from April 1992 to 2002.

Received her B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Guelph on February 1, 1974

TEACHING EXPERIENCE: 

Margaret has taught printmaking courses for the City of Guelph, workshops for teachers in several counties, secondary school – Head of the Arts Department for Glenview Park Secondary School in Cambridge, 1985; Artist-in-the-Schools Program in Owen Sound, Guelph, Chatham and, most recently, taught the printmaking course at Wilfrid Laurier University, 1988-2006.  She taught a weeklong course for the Elora Art School in Watercolour Monotypes, Summer 2001-2004,2006, and Fluid Acrylics in 2005,2006.  She taught monotypes for the Humber Valley Art Association in Etobicoke, September 2002, 2003.  She taught for the Pencil & Palette Club in Georgerown in 2005. She also taught for the C.O.A.A. in Kitchener, October 2005. She taught monotypes at the Southhampton Art School, 2013. Also, she taught tissue collage at the Williams Mill 2013 and at the G.C.A.A. in 2015, and the Wellington County Museum and Archives Art School in 2018. In 2019, she taught the course “How To Create An Abstract” also at the Wellington County Museum and Archives Art School.
